Sesquicentennial Chapel

Location: Southwest side of the intersection of Spring and Maple Streets.

The University Chapel was built from contributions of alumni and friends received for the Sesquicentennial Celebration. The Chapel was dedicated June 7, 1959, as part of the Sesquicentennial. The carillon chimes were dedicated the following October, and were a gift from the national council of Delta Zeta, founded at Miami in 1902, and of Delta Sigma Epsilon, founded at Miami in 1914, and merged with Delta Zeta in 1955. Miami's first chapel, later to become Towers Theater, was located in the Center Building of old Harrison Hall. When the West wing was completely rebuilt in 1868-70, it included a new chapel, two stories high, which was further enlarged with the addtion of a balcony in 1899. at which time it was named Bishop Chapel. In 1908 the "chapel auditorium" in Benton Hall replaced it, and old Bishop Chapel became the College Commons in 1912, serving as a dining room for men.

The chapel is frequently used for weddings. Call 513-529-8016 for reservations.
