Inside Washington
At 9 a.m. on Sunday morning, just as many of us are waking up, influential political figures are discussing important issues on national TV.
As part of Miami's "Inside Washington" program, Geoff Lane traveled to the nation's capital for a summer internship at NBC's "Meet the Press," a post he considers a dream job.
During his six-day work week, Lane read major newspapers and researched topics for upcoming shows, filed video clips, and enjoyed the occasional lunch with Russert. "He really made an effort to get to know me," Lane said about the host.
On Sunday mornings, Lane arrived early at the studio to help with the show's finishing touches and greet distinguished guests.
Students of "Inside Washington" live together in the heart of Washington D.C., where they typically interact with high-profile individuals in their daily activities. Prior to a five-week internship with a political organization such as a senator's office or government agency, students spend three weeks participating in meetings and lectures with notable political and media figures. The group also takes several inside tours of the White House, Capitol, and Supreme Court.
