Meg Ryan
P&G is about breadth and dept, and I had that [at Miami].

Finding her niche

Recent graduate Meg Ryan left Miami with degrees in journalism and political science, but she didn't exactly follow the tried and true career paths in those fields. After taking a single marketing class to fulfill a promise to her mother, she realized she might be more interested in market research. Now she works in Consumer Market Knowledge (CMK) at Cincinnati retail giant Procter & Gamble, researching hair care lifestyles and the best marketing approaches for Aussie, her product line.

Rookie training

Meg said her entire first year involved training for every aspect of the job. On her second day, she was required to attend a global CMK convention and learn "P&G speak" with all its acronyms in a matter of hours. "We don't speak English here," Meg said with a laugh.

Change it up

"This job is fun because I work with every part of the team," Meg said. "It's a multi-faceted job, and I'm always changing roles. You never get bored here." Meg's experiences at Miami with student government, the campus newspaper, the Residence Hall Association, and the Scholar Leader program helped her to develop leadership and analytical skills that impressed P&G and placed her in a role suited to her abilities and interests.

Stretching her limits

Meg said she's already had a lot of responsibility in her job as an associate manager. "At Miami's career fair, P&G told us they hire 'lifeguards'—the people who might have only worked at their local pool all summer but are the best at what they do. I did a little of everything, but P&G is about breadth and depth, and I had that [at Miami]."

Trips and travels

Meg has already flown to Toronto to give a presentation and has more trips in the works.
