Is Miami's faculty diverse?

  • The ethnic diversity of tenure-track/tenured faculty (14.6%) compares favorably to national figures for full-time faculty. At Miami, ethnically diverse faculty constitute 15% of assistant professors, 19% of associate professors, and 10% of full professors.

  • Since 2001, 22% of new tenure-track/tenured faculty have been members of underrepresented ethnic groups; 44% of new tenure-track/tenured faculty have been women.

  • The percentages of tenure-track/tenured faculty who are women (38%) are slightly above national figures for full-time faculty. At Miami, women constitute 47% of assistant professors, 41% of associate professors, and 26% of full professors.

  • Among the professional staff, 9.4% are ethnically diverse. Among the classified staff, 3.6% are ethnically diverse (proportions vary across divisions). Student Affairs has the most ethnically diverse professional (19.8%) and classified (6.1%) staffs.

  • Women constitute 48.9% of professional staff and 62.9% of classified staff.

  • GLEAM (Gay and Lesbian Employees at Miami) hosts social events, facilitates a listserv, and provides an information network for LGBTQ faculty and staff.

  • ABFAS (Association of Black Faculty and Staff) hosts social events, facilitates a listserv, and provides an information and support network for African American employees.

  • The Women's Center touches thousands of lives each year as it continues its tradition of support, education, and advocacy begun in 1977. One of its signature events is a fall reception for women faculty and staff.

  • The Offices of the President and the Provost host an annual fall reception for ethnically diverse and international faculty and staff.
