Admission

International Student

Miami University encourages applications for graduate study from international students. In fact, Miami enrolls approximately 200 international graduate students each year.

Requirements
You are expected to demonstrate through your academic record that you are prepared to enter an advanced course of study at Miami University. International applicants for graduate study must have earned a university degree at least equivalent to the American Bachelor's degree: typically at least 16 years of schooling, with four years of full-time study at the university level, culminating with the award of a first or second degree.

Application for Admission
To apply for graduate study as an international student at Miami University, submit the following:

  • Application for International Admission (with $35 application fee)
    Download PDF (230 KB)
*The Art Education program is not accepting applications at this time.

  • Proof of Financial Support
    (See Fees and Financial Aid.)

  • Official Academic Record (two copies)*
You are required to submit an official record listing all courses you have taken, the grade received in each course, and the dates of attendance. Called a transcript in the United States, this document must bear an original signature in ink of the appropriate authority at the institution(s) you have attended (such as the Registrar) and bear the institution's official seal or stamp.

  • Certification of each Diploma or Degree earned (two copies)*

  • Language Proficiency Test Scores (if applicable)
If your native language is not English, you are required to submit scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or provide alternative evidence of English language proficiency.

  • Specific Departmental Requirements (if applicable)
Applicants to graduate study in architecture and art must submit a portfolio that includes samples of their work directly to those departments. Those applying for graduate study in music must schedule an audition or submit a performance tape. Some Miami academic departments require scores on certain standardized tests for admission to their graduate program. You are strongly encouraged to check with your program for more information about any specific departmental requirements that must be met before their application for admission can be considered.

    * Photocopies and notarized copies are NOT accepted; however, documents can be certified as true copies by a U.S. Consular official or by a recognized educational authority in your home country. Records issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a literal (not interpretive) certified English translation.

Application Deadline
Deadlines vary by department. For the exact dates, select your area of study under Programs and Degrees.

Medical History
Before enrolling, all applicants from other countries must submit a completed Medical Form for International Students that includes dates of immunizations.
