- Considered one of the all-time greats of Miami University football and one of the pillars among the Cradle of Coaches, John Pont - a charter member of Miami University's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969 and the first athlete in Miami history to have his jersey number retired - died at his home after a long illness Tuesday, July 1, at the age of 80.

- Miami student receives Gilman scholarship for study abroad
- Miami University senior Tariq Lacy, from Beavercreek, is the recipient of a $5,000 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. He will use it to participate in the Asian studies program at Kansai Gaidai University in Japan. The Gilman program received 1,659 applications for 700 possible awards for the 2008-2009 academic year.
